Defenders of the Planet-DEPLA (formerly known as Rwenzori Environment Conservation Project-RWECOP) is a registered non governmental and nonprofit conservation organisation operating in Uganda with registration number INDR9275841NB.
DEPLA was founded in the year 2005 by some community members who saw a need to contribute to environment conservation due to current environmental challenges such as the issue of climate change, threatened biodiversity among others.

LEGAL STATUS OF DEPLA
Defenders of the Planet (DEPLA) is a legally registered non governmental and not for profit organization. DEPLA is registered by the Uganda NGO Bureau with registration number INDR9275841NB.
DEPLA is also incorporated as a company limited by guarantee and having no share capital with incorporation number 80020000729406
OBJECTIVES OF DEPLA
a) To raise public awareness on the relevance of environment conservation and management.
b) To empower communities with technical expertise and trainings on natural environment conservation and issues of bio diversity and to ensure that the natural environment is used wisely and continues to be available for the benefit and enjoyment of the future generation.
c) To conserve water catchments such as, rivers, springs, lakes as well as wetlands resources
d) To promote tree planting, agro forestry and natural resource conservation to reverse the environmental degradation as well as implementing other climate change projects.
e) To conserve wildlife and biodiversity.
